Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)

GAP audits are a voluntary way for farms and businesses to provide buyers with independent assurances that their food safety systems are complete, functioning, and current. All USDA GAP audits are provided as a fee-for-service and are done by USDA licensed auditors. Most GAP audits in the state of Maine are done by licensed auditors from Maine’s Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry.

Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) is a set of federal laws passed in 2011 to create consistent, science-based food safety standards across the entire food system. It was the first major update to the Federal Food Code since 1938.

Many parts of the food system were already subject to food safety regulations, including meat and poultry, seafood, dairy, and many kinds of processing. FSMA sought to apply basic food safety practices across the remaining sectors of the food system to ensure public health protection across the entire supply chain.

Soil Amendments

Our soil is our livelihood. We take our stewardship of this resource very seriously working to ensure it can thrive to produce the array of products we grow for our community for generations to come.

Many of you have been hearing about the spreading of sludge and septage that resulted in PFAS (forever chemicals) being found at unhealthy levels in soils, milk, ground water and humans. We want to assure our customers that we have NOT spread sludge on our land/fields. And we do not purchase soil amendments that have sludge as an additive.

We are following this issue very closely and are working with the property owner of land we lease to ensure the soil is safe.
